

Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 2, 2015 at Rainbow Presbyterian Church for Mr. Michael Bryan McCain, 64, Rainbow City, Al who passed away on Monday, September 28, 2015. Rev. Robbie Hendrick will officiate. Cremation Services provided by Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
Mr. McCain was a 1969 graduate of Greenhill High School in Cincinnati, Ohio; University of Alabama at Birmingham with a BA in Spanish Language and Literature 1969-1973, Universidad Complutense de Madrid with Honors, 1972 and University of Alabama at Birmingham B.A. Urban Development with honors 1978-1979.
He was among Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and College 1971-1972, 1972-1973. Mr. McCain was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha.
Mr. McCain was a certified Industrial Developer with the American Industrial Development Council.
He served as Executive Director of Gadsden-Etowah Industrial Development Authority from 1985 -2015, Assistant Director and Chief of Staff of Development Office (now Alabama Department of Commerce), Montgomery, AL from 1983 - 1985, Executive Director of Tuscaloosa County Industrial Development Authority from 1981 - 1983, Executive Vice President of Gadsden Chamber of Commerce, Etowah Expansion Association from 1976 - 1981, Director of International Development-Metropoliton Development Board from 1974 - 1976, Birmingham, AL and International Representative of First National Bank of Birmingham from 1973 - 1974.
Mr. McCain was a member of the International Economic Development Council, fellow member, past member of the Board of Directors starting in 1977, Southern Economic Development Council, past member, Board of Directors starting in 1974, Economic Development Association of Alabama, Past President, 1974 and Alabama Economic Development Alliance Board of Directors starting in 2011.
He was awarded the David R. Echols Distinguished Service Award for Exemplary Service in Economic Development in 2011 and the Distinguished Service Award American Economic Development Council in 1990.
Mr. McCain was an instructor of Economic Development Financing Economic and Community Development Institute, Auburn University. He was a member of Rainbow Presbyterian Church and enjoyed motorcycle touring and was awarded the IBA Mile Eater Award.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Massey McCain, children, Christopher (Brandy) McCain, Arab, Bryan (Brandi) McCain, Spring Hill, TN, Kimberly (Ray) Hamby, Rainbow City, granddaughters, Hannah, Brynn and Ava, who affectionately called him “Crazy” Paw Paw, brother, Jack L. McCain, sister, Kathy Harris, Huntsville, brother and sister in law, Truman and Janet Smith, Arab and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Rainbow Presbyterian Church Building Fund or to the Technical Division at Gadsden State Community College.
There will be no visitation.
