
Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Mildred Lankford Burns. Dr. Chad Hayes, Rev. Wayne Burns and Bro. Lauil Thompson will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mrs. Burns passed away peacefully at the age of 99 on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the home of her daughter and special son-in-law, Jean and Jim Clark, Florence AL. She had moved from Southside, AL following the death of her husband A.W. Burns, Jr. in 2008 and had lived with them ever since.
Mrs. Burns was born October 9, 1914 in Talladega, AL to the late Mike and Jenieve Lankford. She was the eldest of six children. She graduated from Southside High School, Class of 1933. She was a Godly woman in all her titles as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was an avid reader, accomplished pianist and dear friend to many. Mrs. Burns was a lifelong member of Southside Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, A. W. Burns, Jr.; brothers, Woodard and Bill Lankford and sisters, Edith Wyolene Lankford and Tommie Lankford Myrick.
Mrs. Burns is survived by her children: Alex (Kathryn) Burns, Mike (Patricia) Burns and Jean (Jim) Clark, grandchildren, Lynita (Joe) Stuart, Brent Burns, Bruce (Karen) Burns, Lori (Chad) Hayes, Carol Stephens and Scott (Terri) Clark, great grandchildren; Peyton, Chandler and Pryce Burns, Emily Clark, Laura Page, Steve Higdon, Cassie Thrasher and Clark Hayes, brother, Clacky (Vera) Lankford, special brother-in-law, Oscar B. Myrick and sister-in-law, Flo Lankford.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Valley View Baptist Church Building Fund, 7254 President St., Leeds, AL 35094. The church is pastored by Dr. Chad Hayes, husband of granddaughter, Lori Hayes.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the hour of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
