

He is survived by his wife and lifelong sweetheart of 50 years, Sherry Means Hicks. He was the proud and loving father of two daughters, Meredith Hicks Rehm (Gary), Birmingham, AL and Lauren Brooke Hicks, Birmingham, AL. Bruce was also “Pops” to two grandchildren, William and Madeline Rehm.
He was a native of Gadsden and was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Bryant Hicks, and Paul F. Hicks. A graduate of Gadsden High School class of 1967, he then attained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Jacksonville State University in business administration. The majority of his professional career was focused on sales.
Bruce considered his greatest role to be to be that of husband, loving father, and adoring grandfather. He was an avid music collector, reader, and lawn aficionado. He also had a passion for sports cars that he enjoyed sharing with his grandson, William.
Throughout his life, many were inspired by his perseverance and fortitude. Those qualities along with his strong work ethic and devotion to his family are gifts he shared with his children and grandchildren. His warm and friendly personality made him easy to love and his sense of humor always brought joy to others. He often stated that he was a wealthy man because he possessed the things that no amount of money could ever buy…the love of God and the love of his family.
Bruce’s family extends a special thank you to the nurses and doctors of UAB Oncology, Dr. Ayers and staff, and all those who compassionately cared for him in his home.
Family and friends are invited to remember and celebrate Bruce’s life on Wednesday, September 13 at Collier Butler Funeral Home in Gadsden. Visitation will begin at 10:00 with a service to follow at 11:00.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude or any ministry that spreads the gospel of Jesus.
