Peggy Cochran McGlaughn, age 69, went to join her Lord on Thursday, April 24, 2014. An only child Peggy was a lifelong resident of Southside, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Geneva Lindsey and Aaron William (A.W.) Cochran. Left to cherish loving memories are her husband of 38 years, J.L. McGlaughn, sons Lt. Col. James William McGlaughn (Beth) and Michael David McGlaughn (Amy) and grandchildren, Megan, Russ and Will. Peggy’s greatest joy came from the care and nurturing she gave her family, friends, and neighbors. A traditional Southern lady, Peggy loved to read cook books as avidly as many read books on the best seller lists. From that pastime came delicious meals, frequently shared by those she knew who were sick or hurting. Her home was always open, and visitors were welcomed with a slice of homemade cake and a glass of iced tea. She also enjoyed gardening/canning, giving away produce, pickles, and jams to family and neighbors. Peggy was a member of Southside Baptist Church. She had a sweet, compassionate spirit- quick to lend a helping hand and slow to judge. She will be missed by many. Much gratitude to special family and friends Tony and Leslie McGlaughn, Elouise Gulledge, Rodney and Jimmie Cochran, Katie Thomason, A.W. and Jean Smith, Maril McGlaughn, Myrtle Wolfe, Sue Rich, Judy Phillips, Betty Hilley, Judy Richardson, Barbara Scott, Margie Bender, Alice and Ingram Culwell, Tim and Kim Clark, Willard and Lorraine Hart, James and Becky Oglesby, Bill and Barbara Russell and Henry Golson. Pallbearers will be Harold Abernathy, Ryan McGlaughn, Bruce Free, Ronnie Phillips, Bobby Griffin and Sam Bender. Honorary Pallbearers are Terry John Calhoun, Jr., Don Hare and Larry Hawkins. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the building fund at Southside United Methodist Church or Southside Baptist Church. Services will be held at Collier-Butler Funeral Home as follows: Visitation on Monday, 6:00 -8:00 p.m.; Funeral Services on Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. at Collier-Butler Chapel. The Reverends Bill Drummons, Lauil Thompson and Henry Golson will officiate with burial at Southside Memorial Park.
