Raymond Phillips, 84, of Altoona Alabama passed away April 20, 2023. He was born on December 29, 1938. A drag racing legend and antique car collector, he was much admired in the automotive community and beloved by his many friends and extended family.
Mr. Phillips graduated from Gadsden High School in 1957. He worked as a tile contractor for more than forty years in the Atlanta area. Mr. Phillips loved animals and they loved him. He also enjoyed gardening, collecting antiques, and working with his tractors. He was a longtime member of Altoona First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother Launa Phillips, sisters Lillian Ward and Helen Tucker, and brother Ralph Phillips.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his loving wife Gail Stanfield Phillips, his daughter Beth and her husband Scott of Charleston, SC, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
A quiet Christian internment will be held at Altoona’s Walnut Grove Cemetery on Friday, April 28th at 1:00pm, all are invited.
