

R.L. “Jack” Griffin, 83, of Regency Pointe, Rainbow City, Alabama died April 2 at the residence. He was born in Kathleen, Florida, son of the late Rufus L. Griffin, Sr. and Amanda Formby Griffin. Graveside services will be Tuesday, April 6 at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens, Shorter Avenue, Rome, Georgia. Services will be conducted by Pastors, Mark Cosby of First Baptist Church, Cedar Bluff, AL and Lauil Thompson of Southside Baptist Church, Southside, AL. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
Jack spent most of his youth in Rome, GA and graduated from Boys’ High School. After school he joined the Army and served 2 years during World War II as an Armed Forces disc jockey and radio operator. After active duty, he remained in the Army Reserves until 1962.
Jack had a distinguished 44 year career with Sears Roebuck & Co. He began as a warehouse helper and, after many promotions and transfers, retired in 1991 as South Florida District Manager of Commercial Sales.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Betty Hall Griffin and two daughters, Cathy (Roger) Cathey of Franklin, TN and Kay (Steve) Brams of Hollywood, FL. Grandchildren include Chris Cathey, Franklin; Mandy Cathey (Chad) Davis, Jacksonville, FL; Jackie Brams and Alex Brams, Hollywood; and 1 great-grandchild, Cortlynn Davis. He was preceded in death by grandson, Robbie Brams.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Gene Hall, Bill Hicks, Walt Updike, Peter Kelly, Blake Livingston, Gene Ledbetter, and friends at Regency Pointe.

The family will be accepting friends on Monday afternoon from 3 until 5 PM at Collier-Butler Funeral Home in Gadsden, AL. and on Tuesday afternoon from 1 until 2 PM at Daniel’s Funeral Home in Rome, GA.
