Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Forrest Cemetery for Robert "Bobby" S. Graves Jr., 61, of Huntsville, who passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014, after an extended illness. The Revs. James E. Elliott and Dennis W. Nichols of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter will be officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Bobby was born on Nov. 11, 1952, in Gadsden. After attending kindergarten and elementary school at the Episcopal Day School, Bobby enrolled at Disque Junior High and Gadsden High School, where he was a member of the golf team. After attending Marion Military Institute for two years, Bobby enrolled at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where he was a member of Alpha Beta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order. He graduated from the university in 1972 with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry. Bobby furthered his education at Jacksonville University and Calhoun County Community College, studying accounting and computer science. He enjoyed working with environmental issues, but especially his work at Marshall Space Flight Center and various government contractors, the last one being ERC. In his spare time, Bobby enjoyed playing golf, being a patron of The Masters, and attending University of Alabama football games.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Robert S. Graves; his paternal grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Alexander Wilson Graves of Gadsden; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hunsucker of Charlotte, N.C.
Bobby is survived by his mother, Faye H. Graves; sisters, Susanne Graves Wheeler and Lynn (Ron) Towers; nephews, John (Brandie) H. Hatfield Jr. and Nicholas (Jennifer) A. Wheeler IV; great-nephews, Hayden, Trey and Hudson Hatfield; and great-nieces, Emma and Eryn Wheeler.
Honorary pallbearers are Ted and Rita Campbell, Col. Wendell Colberg, Retired, Dewitt Burns, Gail Gordon and James H. Perkins.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Manh C. Dang and the staff of the third floor at Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville. The family also thanks Ms. Lesa Nevels, Jada and Paul Baillargeon and their children, and the Rev. Andy Anderson, Rector of the Church of the Nativity in Huntsville.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter, Episcopal Day School or the ARK (Huntsville).
The family will accept friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
