
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Collier Butler Chapel for Roger Clinton Ellison, 79, who died on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. The Rev. Phillip Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. Collier Butler Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Mr. Ellison was a lifelong resident of Etowah County and member of Fairview Baptist Church. He graduated from Alabama Polytechnic University (Auburn University) in 1959 with a degree in Civil Engineering and was a Professional Land Surveyor. Mr. Ellison was Etowah County Engineer for over 20 years and was a Major in the United States Army Reserves. He was proud to be a 35-year member of the Gadsden Civitans, where he had served as President, was twice voted Civitan of the Year, and received the organization’s highest award, Foundation Fellow, for extraordinary contributions in Leadership and Community Service.
Mr. Ellison is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda T. Ellison; son, C. Shane (Katie) Ellison; grandson, Henry Maddox Ellison, affectionately known as “Little Man”, sister-in-law, Lucy Trantham, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Gadsden Civitans in care of Cadence Bank, 3201 Rainbow Drive, Rainbow City, AL 35906.
Pallbearers will be Greg Ellison, Clint Ellison, Brent Ellison, Chuck Gardner, John Stephens, Danny Hancock, Danny Brock, and Bengie Loveless. Honorary pallbearers will be the “coffee club” and staff of the Waffle House.
Special thanks to Gadsden Regional Medical Center, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Gadsden, ProHealth Home Health, Dr. Maury Minton, Dr. Alberto Echeverri, and Dr. Ken Davenport.
The family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
