

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Roy Gene Hunter, 78, who passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on Monday, April 17, 2023. Visitation will precede the service from 12:00-2:00 pm.
Rev. Chris Ragan, Rev. Allen Ragan and Jimmy Hutt will officiate. Committal service with military honors will follow at Lebanon Cemetery, Coates Bend.
Mr. Hunter was born in Cherokee County but lived most of his life in Etowah County. He was married to his late wife Frances for 58 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Hunter was a carpenter by trade and worked as a home builder until retirement. He was a lifelong Auburn fan and an avid race car enthusiast and driver. His love of racing inspired generations of family members and friends. Several nephews and great nieces continue his legacy.
Mr. Hunter is survived by his daughters, Cathy Hunter Lankford (Keith) and Kristionna Hunter; grandchildren Colten Lankford (Sarah Harman) and Kara Lankford; sisters, Sherry Hunter Hutt (Jimmy), and Dana Helms (Jeff Davis); brothers, Jimmy Hunter (Adonna), Tony Hunter (Pam), and Eric Hunter; numerous nieces & nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman Hunter and Myrtice Hunter; sisters, Patricia Alford and Tina Gaskin (Allen); brothers, Gary Hunter and Allen Hunter (Becky); sisters-in-law Mary Ann Shirey (Bill) and Helen Williams (JR); and brother-in-laws, Billy Ray Oliver (Johnnie), Clarence (Booster) Martin Jr. (Glenda), Larry Martin, Robert Martin (Myra Fay) and Michael Martin.
Pallbearers will be Jim Hunter, Jr., Jason Morris, Jeff Helms, Josh Hunter, Nathan Scott, and Terry Vaughn (Plowboy)
The family would like to extend a special thank you to niece Tammy Reno for her care and commitment. Special thanks also to Amedysis Hospice and Mr. Hunter’s nurse Tyler.
