Ruth McElwee Yates

Ruth McElweeYates, 90, of Dunwoody, GA (previously of Gadsden) passed away on January 26, 2011. Funeral service will be held Friday, January 28th, at 2:00 at Collier Butler Funeral Home and will be officiated by Rev. Troy Morrison and Rev. Craig Carlisle.

Mrs. Yates was born in Ragland, AL to George and Lillian McElwee. She graduated from Gadsden High School, attended Gadsden Business College and held administrative positions in both Atlanta and Gadsden. She retired from Baptist Memorial Hospital where she worked in payroll and personnel. She was a faithful member of Twelfth Street Baptist Church, where she loved to sing in the choir. Moving to Dunwoody in 2002, she joined and was an active member of Dunwoody Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernice Yates, and is survived by daughter, Donna Schmid (Paul) of Dunwoody, and step-daughters, Patty Massey (Winston) of Midfield and Bernice Wilson of Opelika.; grandchildren, Jeffrey Schmid of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Gregory Schmid (Amanda) of Savannah; great-grandchildren, Morgan ,Christopher and Jillian Schmid; brother, Harry McElwee, of Birmingham.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Twelfth Street Baptist Church.

The family will accept friends one hour prior to the service at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
