Samuel Stuart Heaton

Funeral services for Mr. Samuel S. Heaton, 89, of Gadsden, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at Collier-Butler Chapel. Dr. Rev. Lynn Dymon will officiate with burial to follow at Williams-Southside Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.

Mr. Heaton died on Sunday, January 5, 2014.

Sam was a loving father and husband. He was married to the love of his life, Betty Grace Heaton, for over 65 years. He was a faithful member of the Methodist Church and was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during WWII. His two favorite past-times were golfing and gardening.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Heaton; his father, Lewis Arthur Heaton; and two brothers.

Mr. Heaton is survived by his wife, Betty Grace Heaton; sons, Sam Lewis (Lysa) Heaton, and Mark (Ann) Heaton; daughter, Mary Frances (Tom) Garrett; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister and brother-in-law, Larry and Dinah Etchison.

Pallbearers will be friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rainbow First United Methodist Church.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to McGuffey Healthcare nurses and staff.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour on Wednesday at the funeral home.
