Shelby Jane Stephens

Shelby Jane Stephens died peacefully at home on 03/19/2024. Her son Brandon and younger sister Rita were at her bedside. Shelby was born 03/08/1961 in Gadsden, AL to Nancy Pierce (Stephens). Her grandparents Fred and Frances Stephens helped raise and cultivate her into the phenomenal woman she came to be.

Shelby was called to be a healer. She completed nursing school and went to work at Holy Name of Jesus Hospital, currently Riverview Regional Medical Center. She spent over 30 years as a nurse; 20 of those were spent as an ICU nurse caring for the sickest and most fragile patients. God used Shelby’s hands to work as his own. They were dry, calloused, and strong from all of the lifting, pulling, pushing, and constant scrubbing; yet they were gentle enough they could wipe tears of those that were scared and provide comfort to those that were dying when she placed her hand in theirs.

Shelby was truly a rock for her patients, their families, her colleagues, as well as her own family. She raised 2 children on her own as a selfless and devoted mother. Her joy came from creating joy for her children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She made the world better and lighter for so many people just because she was in it.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents Fred and Frances Stephens and her younger brother Jackie Pierce. She is survived and honored by her children Adrienne Stephens and Brandon Stephens; grandchildren Jada, Damien, Marley, Nina, Hailie, and Julius; great grandchildren Arlo and Emmett; her mother, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and special friends Lisa Roper and Miranda Saxton.

Visitation will be 3/22/24 5:00-7:00PM at Collier-Butler funeral home. Funeral service will be 3/23/24 at 12:00PM at Collier-Butler funeral home.
