Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mona Jo Crim Stewart, his son-in-law Jay Wesson, parents, Mitchell and Cleva Dell Stewart, in-laws Pelham and Gladys Crim, sister Iris Cordelia Ruth, brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Lunette Stewart, sisters-in-law, Sylvia Stewart and Brenda Stewart, brothers-in-law, Jim Ruth and Frank Ramsey, and nephews, Mark Ramsey, Mitchell Stewart, and niece Vickey Stewart.
He is survived by his daughter, Monica Stewart Wesson, grandchildren, Meghan (Alex) Brown, Thomas (Kailey) Williams, Lacey Jae Wesson, great grandsons, Van and Max Brown, brothers Bill (Debi) Stewart, Judge Don (Connie) Stewart, sisters Glennell Ramsey, Delsie (Jerrell) Yother, many nieces and nephews, and by his beloved companion Doris Horton, who was such a help and blessing in his later years.
Tom enjoyed a very full life and often said "I've had a good run". In his youth, he was an exceptional athlete who played football at the University of Alabama in the fifties and for the Ft. Benning Doughboys while serving in the U.S Army as Military Police (MP). He graduated from Jacksonville State University while employed at Republic Steel, where he retired after 30 years in Purchasing, and as Superintendent of Transportation.
He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman all his life. Tom and his late wife Mona loved travel and adventure, whether parasailing off the sand banks of Kitty Hawk, N.C., or Tombigbee. A certified scuba diver, private airplane pilot, and boat captain, Tom was always up for a challenge. When asked his advice for life, he would always say "Just do the right thing, and you won't be wrong."
Tom will always be remembered as thoughtful, caring, and intelligent. He was an encourager, and always a gentleman to all that knew him. A longtime member of First Baptist Church of Centre, Tom loved the Lord and his family above all. He will be missed, but will always be remembered as a man who lived a full life and touched the lives of many. He did indeed have a very "good run" here on earth and now eternity in Heaven.
