
Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Forrest Cemetery for Thomas Leon Yother, 81, of Gadsden, who passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013. Pastor Doug Matthews will officiate. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mr. Yother was of the Methodist faith. He was a graduate of Emma Sansom High School and Jacksonville State University. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and he worked as a technical writer in the aerospace field in Huntsville, Alabama, where he retired. He was the co-founder of the well-known Dixie Land Jazz Band, The Southern Comforts, and was a longtime member of the Cahabas Shriners. He enjoyed the time he spent with his family and researching his family history and documenting the Yother genealogy.
He is survived by his sons, Thomas D. (Monica) Yother and Gregory G. Yother; his daughter, Denise (Tom) Monroe; grandchildren: Cory, Zack, Thomas Evan, and Erin; brothers Jerrell (Delsie) Yother, and Dennis (Patsy) Yother; and sister Sonja (Doug) Matthews.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to his niece Rebecca.
