Verna Mae Brown

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Mrs. Verna M. Brown, 96, Gadsden who passed away Monday, December 26, 2011. Dr. Craig Carlisle will officiate with burial at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.

Mrs. Brown was a graduate of Walnut Grove High School graduating as Salutatorian of her class. She worked as a secretary for Hames Trucking Service and Hosmer Van Lines. She was a member of Twelfth Street Baptist Church, WMU and a longtime participant in the Hopkins Mission. Mrs. Brown was a member of National Hikers and Campers Association and the local Noccalula Chapter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Brown, parents, Jesse Turner and Effie Abercrombie Turner, sister, Sue Hames, brother-in-law, A.B. Hames, niece, Sue Collins and nephews-in-law, Leon Bryan.

She is survived by her sister, Sarah Bladorn, nephew, Von (Donna) Bladorn, nieces, Betty Bryan, Kaye (Bill) Abel, Jan Bladorn, nephew-in-law, Herman Collinsand numerous great and great great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to John Croyle’s Big Oak Ranch.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

Honorary Pallbearers will be employees of Woodland Place and Dr. Todd Cross.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
