Wanda Yates Brumbelow was born October 3, 1937, in Clay County, Alabama, to Rufus and Zenobia Yates of Ashland, Alabama. She went home to be with the Lord on February 4, 2025, at the age of 87. Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Zenobia Yates; her first husband, Cecil G. Taylor; her second husband, Melvin Brumbelow; her sister, Runette Hulsey; and her brother-in-law, Dale Jacobs. She is survived by her sister, Joyce Jacobs; her brothers, Bobby (Pat) and Terry (Joy) Yates; her daughter, Danette Dunn (Darrell); her son, Gerald Taylor (Donna); three grandchildren, Dallas Dunn (Danna), Kristin Dunn (Shaun), Curtis Taylor (Karis); four great-grandchildren, Kameron and Priscilla Kate Dunn and Trey and Liliana Taylor.
Wanda graduated from Lineville High School in 1955. She worked for a number of different businesses in the retail industry before becoming a stay-at-home wife. Wanda enjoyed playing golf a little later in life and won several tournaments over the years. She loved singing and had a beautiful soprano voice. She regularly sang solos and sang in the choir at her church. She was involved in church work in a number of different churches over the years. She and her husband, Melvin, spent a few years in the country of Albania doing missionary work in church orphanages.
The last 25 years of her life, she served the Lord faithfully at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Ashville, where her son, Gerald, is the pastor. She was always ready to cook meals, decorate for special events, work in the flower beds, and attend church visitation. She had a heart for the lost and winning souls. She loved going door-to-door, passing out gospel tracts, and telling people what the Lord had done for her and that Jesus would save them if they put their trust and faith in Him. She was greatly loved by all who truly knew her, and she will be greatly missed. “I love you, Mom, and will see you again one day.”- Gerald
The family would like to express gratitude to Jerry and Melissa Tinsley, Amanda, Tonya, Kim, and all other staff at Oak Landing Assisted Living, Attalla, Alabama, and to Riverview Regional Medical Center Emergency Department and fifth floor nursing staff.
