Wilma Firestone

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Collier-Butler Chapel for Mrs. Wilma Firestone, 82, of Glencoe. Burial will follow at New Bethel Cemetery in Hokes Bluff. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services, directing.

Mrs. Firestone passed away Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

She was born and raised in Etowah County before moving away, but later returned to Glencoe. Mrs. Firestone was married for 48 years to her late husband, James Firestone. She was Church of God by faith and was an avid gardener.

Mrs. Firestone is preceded in death by her husband, James Firestone; a son, Ronald Firestone; and her parents, Jessie and Lelia Miller Herring.

She is survived by her son, Hanson (Barbara) Firestone; daughter, Sondra Firestone; daughter-in-law, Diane Firestone; grandchildren, Carl (Debbie) Firestone, Bonita (Tommy) Russell Bussey, Brandie (Phillip) Whitlow, and Ashley Jade (Jeremy Eagle); numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry (Norma) Herring; and sister, Gaynell Herring.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Special thanks to the members of Goodyear Heights Baptist Church and to the Collinsville Nursing Home Alzheimer’s Unit nurses and staff.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 29, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at Collier-Butler in Gadsden.
