

Zane "Sonny" H. Kennedy Jr., 66, of Gadsden, left his earthly body July 31, 2016, surrounded by his family after his courageous battle with cancer.
A graduate of the Gadsden High Class of '68, this avid trumpet player in the Tiger Band found his calling as an optician in the United States Navy, where he spent eight years.
His first station was in Pensacola, Florida, then Virginia. He then spent several years in Texas as a father, optician, and a fisherman with the Bass Anglers Sports Society.
Zane found his way back to Alabama, where he retired June of 2015. Zane enjoyed playing golf, not only as a member of Twin Bridges Golf Course, but also traveling to other courses throughout the South.
Zane was also a member of North Gadsden F.M.C. Church.
Left to cherish his memories: wife Donna Byrum Kennedy of Gadsden; daughter Marjorie L. Garrett (Jay) of Harvest; grandchildren Taylor, Alexia, McKenzie, Brent, Nicholas, Evan and Jesse. Shane H. Kennedy of Huntsville; step-son Chad Robinson (Charity) of Gadsden; step-daughter Gena Roberts (Jason) of Glencoe, Rachel Elrod of Gadsden, Trae Elrod (Amber) of Gadsden, blessed with seven step-grandchildren and four loving dogs; mother-in-law Betty Byrum of Gadsden; brother Tommy Body of Boaz; sister Mary Jane Kennedy of Gadsden and brother John A. Kennedy of Gadsden.
Not forgotten are a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, golf buddies, loyal patients, and many, many friends.
Pallbearers: Joshua Kennedy, Jason Roberts, Tony Dewberry, Chad Robinson, Trae Elrod, Johnny Wetzel, David Helms, Jamie Thompson, as well as honorary pallbearers.
Viewing will be held at Collier-Butler on Monday, Aug. 1, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Service at North Gadsden F.M.C. Church at 11 a.m., and burial at Crestwood Cemetery.
