Charles Patrick Foley, Jr., died peacefully on Monday, October 17, 2022, at 4:20 a.m. after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. He faced the disease with the strength and bravery for which he was known, never complaining about his fate. He was surrounded by loving family in his last months and days, and they will all miss him dearly.
Chuck was born on March 23, 1932, in Columbus, Ohio, to Charles P. and Bernice (Stith) Foley. He spent his childhood in Columbus, then joined the Army Air Corps shortly after graduation and was deployed to Japan during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return, he joined the Columbus Police Force and served the community for 33 years. After he retired, he became the director of security for the Columbus Public Library for ten years, then enjoyed many years of retirement enjoying his family and friends, traveling, golfing, painting, reading and gardening.
Chuck married Myrna Graham Foley, and they were married for 65 years. Together, they had a happy and fulfilling life among family and friends in Columbus, New Albany, and Gahanna until her death in October of 2021. In addition to his wife, Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles P. Foley and Bernice Wake; brother Jim Foley; brothers-in-law Clarence Mills, Dale Graham, Dana Graham, and Bob Graham; and son-in-law David Ferguson.
He is survived by his three children, Patrick (Michelle) Foley, Tim Foley (Pat Brown), and Julie Ferguson. He is also survived by the grandchildren he loved and treasured, Mellisa Foley, Daniel (Caitlyn) Ferguson, Andrew (Cheyenne and Harper) Ferguson, and Brandon Foley; sisters Patricia Mills and Mary (Jim) Hunt; as well as in-laws Don (Sheila) Graham, Dick (Linda) Graham, Connie Graham, Kay Graham, and Mary Graham.
Chuck had a happy life filled with friends from all walks of life. From the police department to the library, church, and various neighborhoods, he made friends wherever he went, and those who knew him, loved him. He and Myrna were snowbirds who loved their group of friends at the Holiday Mobile Home Park in Tavares, Florida. He was a faithful member of the New Albany United Methodist Church and enjoyed going to services, bible study, summer bible school, and participating in all church activities.
The family would particularly like to thank the employees of Wesley Woods Memory Care and Wesley Hospice, who showed Chuck such care and compassion during his time with them.
The funeral service remembering both Chuck and Myrna will be on Friday, October 21 at 4:00pm at Schoedinger Northeast, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, Ohio 43230, with visitation to follow from 5:00pm until 7:00pm.
