David Lee Mahan

David L. Mahan, age 70, of Wingate, NC passed into life eternal April 22, 2025. Dave was born February 26, 1955 in Columbus, Ohio. Graduated from Gahanna Lincoln High School in 1973. 1992 graduate of Appalachian State University. Dave was a Certified Athletic Trainer as well as a high school health educator for many years. Often referred to as “Doc” Mahan by hundreds of student athletes and coaches for over 40 years, he was an athletic trainer at Gahanna Lincoln High School, Whitehall-Yearling High School, Appalachian State University, Watauga High School and Forest Hills High School. He was honored to serve as trainer at the NC Shrine Bowl football game in 2000. Inducted in 2013 into the Gahanna Lincoln Athletic Hall of Fame, being given the Award of Merit. After retirement he continued to serve as a substitute teacher at local high schools in the Wingate, NC area. He was a faithful member of East Campus Baptist Church in Marshville, NC. Preceded in death by parents John and Barbara Mahan, brother, “Jackie” Mahan and his beloved dogs Ginger and Delilah. Survived by sister Becky (Mark) Duvall, brother Mike Mahan, nephew Matthew (Erika) Duvall, niece Andrea Duvall, niece Olivia (Garrett) Houchen, great nephews Kaden Carmody and Nathanael Houchen and great niece Khloe Carmody, dog CeCe, as well as many cousins, other relatives and many, many friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 9, from 5pm-7pm at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 E Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230. David’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 10, at Gahanna Community Church, 470 Havens Corners Rd, Gahanna, OH 43230, beginning at 10am. Pastors Robb Tarr and Dr. James Schnell will be officiating.
