

David spent his career with the Ohio Department of Transportation, where he worked with dedication until his retirement in 2011. David lived life to the fullest and found joy in many activities, including softball, basketball, skiing, golf, and motorcycling. He loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to the beach. David also enjoyed cruises and trips to Las Vegas with his brothers and their spouses. He will be remembered for his energy, sense of adventure, generosity, and the way he embraced the things he loved.
David is survived by his devoted wife, Joanie Shaver; his daughters, Stephanie Shockey (Bill) and Jessica Puckett; brothers, Larry Shaver (Sharon) and Gary Shaver (Joyce); sister, Margie Gilliam; and sister-in-law, Rosemary Shaver. Granddaughters: Morgan Hobday and Halle Shockey; grandsons: Austin (Sara), Zachary (Anne), and Alex; great-granddaughters: Emma and Sophia; and great-grandson, Marcus.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Genevieve Shaver and Robert Shaver, his brother, Terry Shaver; and brother-in-law, Ken Gilliam.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, with visiting to follow until 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society in David’s memory.
