

Edna Mae Mahoney, 97, passed away on December 1, 2025, in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 1, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Alfred and Mary (Smoody) Kosmal.
On October 23, 1948, Edna married the love of her life, World War II Naval Aviator Paul (Don) Donald Mahoney, and together they shared 52 wonderful years of marriage. Her loving husband passed away in December 1999. She spent most of her life in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she began her career as a telephony engineer for Bell Telephone before dedicating herself to raising her family. Recently, she moved to Columbus, Ohio, to be closer to her loved ones and was supported by a caring and dedicated team of professionals.
Edna was known for her wonderful sense of style, her love of entertaining, and her incredible cooking. She was a beloved hostess who planned show-stopping gatherings that friends and family eagerly looked forward to. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, when she could bring all of these talents together to celebrate with friends and family.
Edna had many interests and enjoyed needlepoint, creating beautiful sewn pieces, and had remarkable talent in interior design. She had a natural eye for beauty and loved decorating and improving spaces for herself and others. Edna also loved to travel, and her favorite place to visit was Italy.
She was also a lifelong animal lover. Her favorite grand-dog, Toby, held a special place in her heart, as did her childhood dog, Teddy. Over the years, she cared for and loved many cats and dogs.
Edna was preceded in death by numerous friends and loved ones, including her parents; her daughter, Carol Haverty; and her siblings, Dorothy Kunkel and Alfred Kosmal.
She will be missed by her loving children, Patricia (Brian) Slusser and James Mahoney; her grandchildren, Erica McCartney, Jessica (Aaron) Newman, Kristin (Adam) Beutler, Michael (Natalie) Slusser, and Alec (Kaitlyn) Slusser; and her great-grandchildren, Owen Beutler, Emma, Logan, Quinn, and Lily Slusser.
A prayer service will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m., followed by a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Schoedinger Northeast, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, Ohio 43230. A committal service will conclude the services on Saturday, December 6, 2025, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Notre Dame Mausoleum at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 2900 Washington Road, Canonsburg, Pennsylvania 15317.
