Ernie was a 1965 graduate of Washington Senior High School, in Washington Court House, Ohio. He attended Bliss College for 2 years, where he received an Associate’s Degree in Business/Accounting. After college, he joined (was drafted into) the United States Army. After about six months, he was honorably discharged, due to a previous cancer diagnosis.
After his brief military experience, Ernie worked at Ohio National Bank, in Columbus, where he met his wife of 54 years, Beverly Ann Cunningham. They married on April 17, 1968. After leaving Ohio National, he went to work at NCR (National Cash Register), in Washington Court House. After a couple of years, Ernie moved on to the Fayette County Bank, also in Washington Court House, where he worked with his big brother Jim. He soon moved on to the Jeffersonville branch, where he was the branch manager.
In 1984, the family moved to McConnelsville, Ohio, where Ernie had taken a position at the Citizen’s National Bank, until 1991. It was here that he began working with Heartland Bank, in Northeast Columbus, where he held several positions, in several of their different locations. Ernie retired from Heartland at the age of 57, due to medical issues.
Ernie was always active in the community. He was active in the Jaycees and eventually became a JCI Senator. He was an advisor for Junior Achievement, a 4H advisor, a member of the American Legion...and even coached Pony League Football, in the 70’s.
Ernie was a member of the Jeffersonville United Methodist Church. He had many hobbies, including fishing and playing cards with his granddaughter and her husband, when they came to visit. He LOVED his three children, his 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, like no other!!
Preceded in death by his dad and mom, Robert and Louise, his granddaughter, Kendra and his faithful K-9 companion, Mani.
Ernie leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Beverly (Cunningham) Wilson; his sister Carol McDonald; his 3 brothers, Jim (CJ), Jack (Sandy) and Wes (Shirley); his 3 children: Ryan (Cindy), Mindy (Rich) and Heather; his 10 grandchildren: John Borras (Tosha), Marceline Avalon, Emily (Aaron) Estep, Jacob Peterson, Rae-Anna (Harrison) Johnson, Olivia (Chris) Foster, Erica (Ben) Wilson, Dallas (Laura) Patterson and Abby Wilson; his 9 great-grandchildren: Luka Walls, Keelie Johnson, Jaymison Johnson, Marlaya Morton, Grayson Estep, Elouise Estep, Elliana Soder, Hudson Estep, Lyla Hebble...and two more on the way!! Also, NUMEROUS nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Ernie was a very loving but hard-headed, silly, FUNNY...and stern, when he needed to be. He loved his family...especially those babies.
The end of his life was very hard. This year was extra trying, but he was a fighter! He was the BEST Brother, Husband, Father, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa and Uncle, to us all.
The family will receive guests on Friday, November 11, from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Schoedinger Northeast, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd, Gahanna, OH 43230.
