Ethan Wyand (born Carl Ethan Wyand), beloved son of Carl and Stephanie (Thissen) Wyand, was born on April 27, 2009, in Pataskala, Ohio, and passed unexpectedly after a long and private struggle with mental health on October 31, 2025. Neurodivergent and highly verbal, Ethan’s autistic profile alongside his gifted intellect brought remarkable strengths and real challenges that he met with steady resolve.
Ethan was joyful and fun-loving as a child and grew into a witty, headstrong young man with a love of words and a remarkable vocabulary. He was a gifted young storyteller and writer who sought purpose and meaning with his whole heart and intentionally sought God as the source of that meaning. A verse that resonated with him was: “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known” (1 Corinthians 13:12). Ethan loved books about meaning and philosophy -- and debated with passion and persistence. He had a special gift for short fiction, excelling in the short-story form. His curiosity came in vivid seasons—magic tricks; wilderness survival; landscaping work through his small business - Property Craftsmen; philosophy; working out and healthy eating; cooking; school theatre and volleyball. Ethan enjoyed chess. He could drop a movie line at just the right moment and have the room laughing; with his siblings he traded lines, songs, and scenes—the kind that knit a family. He also loved serving with small children and helping in children’s ministry.
Ethan is lovingly remembered by his parents, Carl and Stephanie Wyand; his siblings Oliver, Angela, Elizabeth, and Isaac Wyand; Grandparents Catherine Wyand and Betty Thissen; Aunt Sandra Muncy; Uncles James Thissen and Jeffrey Thissen; Aunt Kristina Thissen; and many cousins, extended family members, and friends who cherished him deeply.
He was preceded in death by Carl S. Wyand (Papa) and Robert A. Thissen (Papa Bob).
The family will receive friends for Visitation on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at One Church, 817 N Hamilton Rd, Gahanna, OH 43230, followed by a service beginning at 4:30 p.m. A private burial will take place at Jersey Township Cemetery.
