Joan Rita Howard

Joan Rita Howard, age 90, peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024. She was born on March 12, 1933 to the late Stanley and Mary (Yanik) Pavlic. In addition to her parents, Joan is preceded in passing by her loving husband of 59 years Jess Eugene Howard (founder of Jess Howard Electric Company); children; James Howard, Tim Howard, Jeffery Howard, Jess JR(Carla) Howard and Jodi Howard.

Joan adored her husband of 59 years, whom she met Christmas caroling. She was born in Fairpoint, OH where she was a Majorette in High school. She was a loving and caring mother who strived to guide her children through life and life’s challenges. When she was not raising her children, she enjoyed shopping and experiencing new places. She was blessed with the opportunity to have traveled the world and see places that most people will never see.

Joan is survived by her children; Jill Howard, Jonathan (Jill) Howard; daughters-in-law Phyllis Howard and Carolyn Howard; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren; and Sister Carol Markle.

A visitation for Joan will be held Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Schoedinger Margarum Northeast, 1051 E Johnstown Road, Gahanna, Ohio 43230. A mass of Catholic burial will follow on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, 807 Havens Corners Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230. Services will conclude at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5600 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43213. Contributions in Joan’s name can be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church.
