

Dr. Jocelyn Montemar Dioun "Joy" a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024 at the age of 77. She was born March 7, 1947 in the Philippines to the late Benjamin Montemar and Constancia Patricio Montemar. In addition to her parents, Joy is preceded in passing by her brother, Huberto Montemar.
A deeply devout Catholic, Joy was the spiritual anchor of her family. Her faith was unwavering, and she often prayed for the well-being of her loved ones. She was known for her kindness and thoughtfulness, always offering prayers and words of comfort when her family or friends were in need.
Joy was also a great cook, one of her most well-known dishes was her pancit—a traditional Filipino dish symbolizing long life—becoming a family favorite at every birthday celebration. She also took much pride in being an animal lover, particularly cats and pigeons. In her free time, Joy enjoyed to dance, especially swing dancing.
In her professional life, Dr. Joy was a highly respected physician. She graduated as a doctor in the Philippines and went on to practice as a general physician in Iran, where she eventually opened her own clinic. Her care and compassion for her patients were evident in her work, where she touched many lives with her medical expertise and her big heart.
While living in Iran, Joy became the first president of the Filipino Iranian Community Association (FICA), leading and organizing church activities for the Filipino community. She was a pillar of the community, tirelessly working to serve and support the faith and spiritual lives of others.
It was in Iran that Joy met the love of her life, her husband of 48 years, Ali. Together, they built a loving family and shared many beautiful memories. Her love and devotion to her family were the core of her life, and she will be remembered for her selflessness and generosity.
Joy is survived by her husband, Ali; daughter, Sarah Lou Dioun and her partner Kristi; niece, Joelette Montemar; nephews, Alvin and Donn Montemar; brother in law, Mo Dioun and his wife Mina; sister in law, Fatima Pourian and her husband Habib; along with many extended Montemar and Dioun family members, and beloved fur baby, Kitty Cat.
She will be greatly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all those whose lives she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 9AM on Saturday, October 26 at Church of the Resurrection, 6300 E Dublin Granville Rd. New Albany OH 43054. Following the Mass, interment to take place at Maplewood Cemetery, 4585 Reynoldsburg New Albany Rd. New Albany OH 43054. There will be a celebration of life beginning at 12PM at the Golf Club at Little Turtle, 5400 Little Turtle Way, Westerville, OH 43081.
