Joyce Washington, born February 21, 1964, in Steubenville, Ohio, entered into eternal rest surrounded by the love of her family. She was the beloved daughter of Robert Delroy Farmer and Judy Ann Puffenbarger.
Joyce was a proud graduate of Jefferson Technical College in Steubenville, Ohio, where she earned her associate degree before beginning her career as an X-ray technologist. Through her work in healthcare, she served others with compassion, care, and quiet dedication.
Above all, Joyce was a loving wife and an amazing mother to four children. She shared 36 beautiful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Michael Washington. Together they built a life centered on family, strength, and unwavering love. She was a proud and devoted mother to Matthew Washington (Alyssa), Tyler Washington (Maria), Allison Miller (Trey), and Joseph Washington (Alex).
She was so looking forward to being “Grandma” and deeply treasured the time she had with her grandchildren — Grayson, Ella, Rylie, and Owen. Though her time in that role was far too short, those moments meant the world to her.
Joyce was strong-willed and protective — a true “mama bear.” She loved fiercely and stood firmly for those she cared about. She found joy in boating, vacationing, sewing, reading, and relaxing baths. Some of her family’s favorite memories are of days spent together on the water, where her smile shined the brightest.
For 12 years, Joyce bravely battled Alzheimer’s disease. She faced her diagnosis with courage and resilience, never allowing it to define her or diminish her spirit. Even through the challenges, her strength remained evident and her love never wavered.
She is also survived by her brothers, Randy Farmer, David Farmer, and Jon Farmer, and her special friend, Heather Brehm.
Joyce will be deeply missed for her love, her radiant smile, her energy, and her unwavering kindness. While her family grieves her absence, they find comfort knowing she is now at peace.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 15, from 1–4 PM at Schoedinger Northeast, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, Ohio. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, February 16, at 11 AM at Church of the Resurrection, 6300 East Dublin-Granville Road, New Albany, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association under Team Washington in Joyce’s name at:
