A devoted father, beloved husband, dear friend, and loving son, he was known for his leadership, dry sense of humor, serving others, and being involved in his community. Most of all, Kevin wanted to be remembered for his strong faith in which he hoped his words and actions always pointed others toward Christ.
Kevin grew up in Belleville, Illinois. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Miami University and MBA from the Kellogg School of Management. After graduating from Miami in 1981, he stayed close with many Phi Psi fraternity brothers, who would meet up for an annual golf outing. In later years, the group planned fun trips with their wives and significant others.
He met the love of his life, Robin, at a Halloween party at Miami in 1980. Robin enlisted Kevin to carry home a giant pumpkin for her from a fraternity party, which marked the beginning of their lifelong love story. He and Robin recently celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary.
As Kevin rose in his career he moved from Chicago to New York City, where he joined Chemical Bank. He joined BankBoston in the mid 1990’s which led his family to move to Atlanta. In 2000, he moved into the homebuilding industry, taking on an executive leadership role at K. Hovnanian in New Jersey and later at M/I Homes in Columbus, Ohio. Kevin retired from M/I Homes in 2022. He took pride in mentoring his teams throughout his career and also loved serving, as he was on the Cleveland Federal Reserve Board Business Advisory Council and the Board of Flying Horse Farms.
Kevin was a dedicated member of New Albany Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder, choir member, and finance committee member and faithfully attended a men’s 6am Bible study. In addition to his hardworking financial brain and knack for spreadsheets, he was an avid reader and deep thinker, particularly enjoying the works of C.S. Lewis and T.S. Eliot.
It was an honor for him to ride in Pelotonia to raise money for cancer research, and he loved to play all racquet sports. Even while living with cancer himself, he could still hold his own on the paddle or pickleball court with family and friends. He was a lover of the outdoors, often taking his kids camping and out on the water — from fishing in Oxford Lake to flinging them around on the inner tube on the Navesink River. He was a skilled water skier and made his family proud with his croquet and Gin Rummy skills at their annual family reunion.
Kevin is predeceased by his father, Norman (Carol) Hake. He is survived by his wife, Robin; his children, Colin Hake, Katie (Spencer) Hake, and Carson (MacKenzie) Hake; his mother, Carol (Norman) Hake; and his sister, Kimberly (Michael) Cahill.
He will be dearly missed. Reception will be from 5-7pm on October 30th, followed by a celebration of life from 7-8pm, both at New Albany Presbyterian Church, 5885 E Dublin Granville Rd, New Albany, OH 43054.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Lustgarten Foundation for pancreatic cancer research and the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
