Lopez Heister Davis, 32, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, as a result of a cardiac event. He was born on May 21,1993, in Columbia, South Carolina.
Lopez was truly larger than life—lighting up every room with his bright smile, confident presence, and incisive wit. Whether he knew you for 10 years or 10 minutes, his infectious energy and loving nature were inviting and unforgettable. Lopez had immense love for his dog, Koda, as well as a penchant for singing a note in the middle of conversations, accompanied by a good laugh or a high-pitched scream that was distinctly his own. His vibrant spirit and personality were everywhere evident.
Much like him, Lopez’s creativity and expression were limitless. He worked as Marketing Content Creator at Bath & Body Works since 2022, where he brought products to life through social media content, recently traveling to Paris to shoot for the Emily in Paris collaboration. In 2019 he joined Five14 Church in New Albany as a member of the worship team, transitioning to content creation and graphic design for Sunday morning, Kids Camps, and other events.
Others knew Lopez as their wedding or family photographer, TikTok influencer, or volleyball teammate. Still others knew him by his lovely, crystalline voice in song.
An honors graduate of Hamtramck High School, Michigan, Lopez graduated from Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Mount Vernon, Ohio, with a B.A. in 2017 and an MBA in 2019. As an undergraduate, he participated in Collegians Chorale, music and ministry summer teams, and highly competitive–when Lopez was playing– intramural volleyball.
Lopez is survived by his parents, Tonya Brown and Sean Davis; four siblings: Dominique Davis, Dez’rae Davis, Michael Brown, and Dawayne Brown; his grandmother, Rosetta Brown; aunts Evatte Brown and Arlicia Brown, and uncle Jonathan Brown; grandparents Mary Davis and Willie Davis; aunts Tumeka Davis and Sabrina Davis; and Terry Martin and family. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Brown, Jr.
Lopez is likewise survived by his Ohio family: parents Yvonne (Carmon) Schultz and Dennis Schultz; sister and brother-in-law, Hadassah (Schultz) and Dan Lux; niece and nephew Emery Lux and Emmett Lux; and sister, Adina Schultz. The Schultz family was connected to Lopez via the Meyers family: Janell (Carmon) Meyers and John Meyers of Hamtramck; and their children: Amanda (Meyers) Anteau, Joel Meyers, and Seth Meyers.
Since 2021, Lopez had had a series of heart surgeries, most recently in November 2023. Nevertheless, he maximized every moment, filling his life with people who loved him.
A celebration of life is set for Thursday, June 5. Calling hours are 4:30-6:00 p.m., with a memorial service at 6 p.m., led by Five14 Church lead pastor Joel Kovacs. The church is located at 5744 N. Hamilton Rd., Columbus, OH 43230.
Flowers may be sent directly to Five14 Church through the funeral home website, and gifts in Lopez’s memory may be made to Five14 Church, to be divided between Kids & Student Camps and The Driven Foundation (The tee-shirt for this year’s kids camp was Lopez’s last design, and The Driven Foundation provides school supplies and meals over school breaks to more than 5,000 students); or to the charitable organization of your choice. Schoedinger Margarum Northeast at schoedinger.com is assisting with arrangements.
