Peggy was born in Lawrence, Kansas on 7/8/1936 and passed away at Sage Park Memory Care, Gahanna, Ohio on 8/11/25. Jessie "Louise" Stalnaker Duer and John Craig Duer were her parents at birth. Louise passed away in 1941, leaving John with 2 small children, Peggy and Craig. He married Josephine Cvecka Duer, and they raised Peggy, Craig, and later Bill and Nancy together.
Peggy lived most of youth in Silver Lake, Ohio, graduating from Cuyahoga Falls High School and attending Kent State University. She met the love of her life, Jim Dick, while in their teens and were married at age 21, having two children, John and MaryKay. Peggy primarily managed the household, but briefly worked as a Deputy Registrar, Real Estate Agent, and Administrative Assistant. Peggy spent her adult years living in North Canton, Hudson, Congress and Wooster, Ohio. Peggy's homes were always beautifully decorated, with well kept flower gardens and lawns. Peggy loved having gatherings, and was a gracious hostess. Her cakes, cookies and pies are already missed.
She belonged to the Congress Community Church and several service organizations in Wooster. Peggy was proud to be a volunteer for the Wooster Community Hospital and Samaritans Purse. She truly enjoyed helping and assisting others, rarely accepting no as a response. She lived life completely on her own terms. As her dementia became more prominent, she retained the need to be independent, polished, dignified, willful and spicy to the very end.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim, her 3 parents, brother Craig, son-in-law Ed, in-laws Ernest and Belle Dick, and several extended family members.
Her surviving family includes her son, John [Robin] Dyckson, daughter, MaryKay Banville, grandchildren Ashley [Sanjeeb], Kayleigh, Edmund "Joey", Michaela, great granddaughter, Meghna, brother, Bill Duer, sister, Nancy MacWherter, sister in law Dorothy Clark, many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 4, 2025 at the Congress Community Church, 10691 Franchester Road, West Salem, OH 44827 at 3pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Congress Community Church in Peggy's name, or just offer assistance to one in need. She'd appreciate that. Please no flowers.
Heartfelt thanks to the kind compassionate staff at Sage Park Memory Care and Gentiva Hospice, as they all cared for Peggy with such dignity, respect, and embraced her zest for life.
