Maria Calixto

Maria Calixto, 70, passed away on January 16, 2025 in Columbus, Ohio. She was born on May 16, 1954 in Ahuehuetitla, Puebla, Mexico, to Senen Calixto Rios and Guadalupe Lopez Martinez. Maria enjoyed volleyball, playing for about 30 years. She also enjoyed playing loteria, and loved time with her family at family gatherings.

Her family will remember her for her skilled care of flowers and plants, her delicious cooking, her unfailing sense of humor, her love of traveling, and for all of the ways she enjoyed life.

Maria will also be remembered as a fighter – no matter the health issue or obstacle she faced, she would say “yerba mala nunca muere” and persevere.

She is preceded in death by her father, Senen Calixto Rios. She is survived by her mother, Guadalupe Lopez Martinez; her 8 children; her 24 grandchildren; her 4 brothers; 8 sisters; and many dear friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 4pm-7pm at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday, January 25, at St. Cecilia Church, 434 Norton Rd, Columbus, OH 43228, beginning at 11:30am. Fr. Thomas Buffer, Celebrant.

Services will conclude with interment at Sunset Cemetery on West Broad Street.
