Mary Sue Malone, age 86, passed away on August 10, 2023. Sue was born on December 29, 1936 to Charles and Jane Hannum in Zanesville, OH. Sue grew up in Zanesville during its heyday and had fond memories from her childhood there. She attended St. Nicholas Church and was in the first class at Rosecrans High School when it opened. She graduated and later earned her Nursing Degree from Good Samaritan. Sue spent more than 40 years as a Registered Nurse and was on the first staff of Mount Carmel East when it opened.
Sue married her husband, James "Jim" Malone in 1959 before moving with him to Gahanna in 1963. Sue and Jim remained united until his passing in 2009. Both were faithful parishioners of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, where they always put God first in their lives.
Sue was also an avid reader, finishing two or three books every week. She loved art and learned to paint, preferring to create paintings of her grandchildren above all other subjects. Sue also enjoyed watching birds and could name nearly any species in North America. She even made many pilgrimages to Lake Erie to participate in the Great American Birdwatching Event. Her cooking and baking skills were legendary, and her family will especially miss her home-made pies.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; and her grandson, Brock. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children, Kathy (Peter) Wilkens, Clancy (Lisa) Malone, Sean (Lynn) Malone, Colin Malone, and Shannon (Jeff) Shope; her sister Judy Trott of Zanesville, OH; her grandchildren, Daniel, Patrick, Kevin, Quinn, Mackenzie, Casey, Connor, Kayla, Brenna, Tara, Alyssa, Jessa, and Rebecca, all of whom she doted on; and five cherished great-grandchildren.
Sue will be dearly missed by all who knew her, especially her children and grandchildren. She was up for any adventure with her children and taught them all how to enjoy the simple things in life.
Hers was a life well-lived.
