

Born to Raymond and Isabel (Schneider) Lang on December 3, 1930. She was a graduate of South High School where she was Vice President of her Senior Class. She spent several years working as a Legal Secretary. She met Don Nieman in the vestibule of St. Joseph's Cathedral and they married two years later. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary shortly before his death in 1991. They shared a deep love of their faith, family and the animals which they raised on their small farm outside of Gahanna. They were able to travel to Europe, India and went on several Safaris to Africa. Their last trip was to the Holy Land.
Active in breeding and showing Arabian Horses, she served as State Secretary of AHAO and also was an Advisor for the Trojan 4-H Horse Club.
In the 1980s she wrote "Hoofbeats" a weekly column in the Columbus Dispatch, reporting on the Pleasure Horse Industry. The family was among the early breeders of llamas in Ohio and were charter members of the Ohio River Valley Llama Association of which she served as Secretary.
She joined HER Realtors in 1983 and during the next 17 years earned many sales awards as well as her CRS designation. She retired in 2000.
An active member of St Matthews Catholic Church since 1969, she served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion for over 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Nieman; son, Matthew Nieman; daughter in law Barbara Nieman, sister Isabel Kotlinski; and a nephew Paul Kotlinski.
Surviving are 3 children, Philip Nieman of Gahanna, OH, Kim (Craig) Gosney of South Carolina and Janet (Tom) Shawhan of Hillsboro, OH, and Daughter-in-law, Marcie Nieman of South Carolina. Eight grandchildren: Mark (Mandy) Shawhan, Kate (Michael) Geiger, Ray (Nicole) Shawhan, Dan (Rebecca) Shawhan, Laura (Kevin) Salfen, Alison (Jeremy) Hepner, Austin (Amanda) Nieman and Hannah Nieman; 11 Great-Grandchildren, David (Xander) & Chloe Shawhan, Travis, Luke & Cole Geiger, Kenny & Blake Shawhan, Carl & Abigail Shawhan, Wystan Salfen, and Wyatt Nieman Also surviving is her sister in law, Mary Ann Mulcahy of Oregon, and 10 nieces and nephews.
Viewing to be held Thursday, November 14th at 10:00 am prior to her Latin Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at St. Leo's Oratory (Catholic Church) at 221 Hanford St., Columbus, Ohio 43206 Officiating will be Rev. Fr. Bede Kotlinski, OSB of Cleveland, who is her nephew and Godson. St. Leo's Catholic Church is where Don and Ramona were married in 1950. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, 6440 South High Street.
Her family wishes to extend our gratitude to the entire caring staff and nurses at Pinebrook Gardens Memory Care in Milford Ohio, for always treating mom like their own family member. Also, a heartfelt thank you to the Queen City Hospice staff and their amazing team of nurses who cared for our mom during this past year and her end of life.
