Michael L. “Mike” Hardin Sr., affectionately known as “Senior,” passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 80 years old. Mike lived a full and joyful life — one defined by laughter, generosity, and a heart that always had room for one more. A cherished member of the Gahanna community, he touched the lives of countless friends and neighbors who will miss his warmth and humor.
Born on March 11, 1945, in Columbus, Ohio, Mike was the son of Roy and Mabel Hardin. From an early age, he had an easy smile, a competitive spirit, and a deep love for family — qualities that remained constant throughout his life.
Mike met the love of his life, Sally, in high school, and together they built more than six decades of love, laughter, and shared adventures. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and an adoring grandfather whose greatest joy came from time spent with his family.
He was “Dad” to Michelle Hardin and Michael (Christy) Hardin, and “Poppy” to his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren — Maddie (Cody) Stiverson, Meghan Hardin, Reilly Mentel, Hannah Hardin, Presley, Giorgia, Elona, Knox, Walker, Weston, and Waylon. He is also survived by his brother Gary (Gretchen) Hardin, and will be fondly remembered by his lifelong friends John Russer and Will Risdon. Mike was preceded in death by Roy and Mabel Hardin, Ronnie and Colleen Rees, and Ronald Hardin.
Throughout his life, Mike gave freely of his time and energy to those around him. Whether he was coaching little league, attending dance recitals, cheering for his beloved Buckeyes, or teeing off on the golf course, he brought warmth, humor, and encouragement to every moment.
Professionally, Mike spent much of his career in communications — beginning with Ohio Bell as a technician, later serving as a National Account Service Manager with AT&T, and eventually consulting for Tellabs before retiring (for the second time) to focus on perfecting his golf game. He was admired not just for his expertise, but for his integrity, mentorship, and the lifelong friendships he built along the way.

A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at The Gahanna Pub, 207 W. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230. Please join us in celebrating Senior’s life with an OSU-style tailgate party — wear your Buckeye gear, raise a toast, and share a favorite story.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mount Carmel Hospice or the Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center — two organizations that reflect Mike’s kindness and compassion.
