

Paul Douglas “Doug” Gibbs, age 84, died Sunday, June 25, 2023. He was born on July 17, 1938 in Troy OH, to the late Roy and Areda (Ehlers) Gibbs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Jane (Adams) Gibbs; sister Sue (Stum) Begley; granddaughter Hayley Gibbs; and grandson Jack Gibbs. Doug is survived by sisters Joyce Knife and Vicky (Keith) Warner; children Melinda Lawrence, Kelly (Darrin) Endicott, Bill (Colleen) Gibbs, and Caroline Gibbs; grandchildren Andy (Stefani Dutey) and Chad Lawrence, Corey, Bradley, Samantha, and Lance Endicott, Alex and Alicia Gibbs; great-grandsons, Neil, Liam and Levi Lawrence; and dear friend, Karen Cain.
Doug developed incredible interest in aviation, electronics, and ham radios (W8NFT) at a young age that would be the foundation for his career. He moved to Columbus, OH to attend The Ohio State University to pursue a degree in Physics where he met Jane. Doug became an accomplished electrical and RF engineer, spending his career designing innovative general aviation navigational devices. He also played large roles in the development of DoD applications, including a passive collision warning system that significantly reduced aircraft training incidents. Doug loved to include his family in all of his interests that included piloting, aviation, auto racing, sports cars, motorcycles and music.
A Memorial Service for Doug will be held at 4pm on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home. Visitation will follow the service from 5pm-7pm at the funeral home.
