Raymond M Horensky

Raymond M. Horensky, 93, of Columbus, Ohio, and a longtime former resident of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, passed away on September 1st. Born August 8, 1929, Raymond was the son of the late Michael and Julia (Korechko) Horensky and started his career as a tool and die maker by working with his father in a machine shop at their family residence on Washington Street. Raymond was a member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church before moving to Ohio in 2017, where he attended Peace Lutheran Church in Gahanna.

Raymond served in the United States Army during the Korean War with the rank of Sargent, receiving the Good Conduct Medal; the National Defense Service Medal; the United Nations Service Medal; and the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars. Upon returning to the United States, Raymond married his sweetheart of 68 years, Emma Gula of Swoyersville. Raymond continued his career at Eberhard Faber and later at Inter Metro. Raymond was a meticulous craftsman and continued fixing just about everything even in his later years. Raymond loved to watch the birds and was an avid fisherman, treasuring many memories of times fishing with his best friend, the late Norman Bugay.

Raymond was preceded in death by his brothers: Theodore, Edward, and Carl, and his sisters: Dorothy, Margie, Bertha, and Mildred. He is survived by his loving wife, Emma; his three children: Sandra and her husband Allan Molotsky of Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania; Susan and her husband Wesley Rhiel of Gahanna, Ohio; and Raymond and his wife Jane of Slatington, Pennsylvania. Raymond’s pride and joy were his grandchildren: Chloe Cerwinka and her husband Max Blaustein; David Molotsky and his wife Elizabeth Ball; Rebecca Molotsky and her fiancé Javier Piraino; Thomas Rhiel and his wife Betsy Morais; Andy Rhiel; Megan Horensky; and Emily Horensky, and his four great grandchildren: Frances; Charles; Emelia, and Minna, all of whom lovingly referred to Raymond as their “Pop”. Raymond is also survived by his sister, Ellen Check and her husband John and his sister in law Anna Horensky.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Columbus Veterans Administration Hospital, the doctors and nurses at The Ohio State University system, and the staff of Capital City Hospice for their kindness and quality care during Raymond’s final years.

Services will be held at a later date through the John V. Morris Funeral Home, Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania with interment at Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas, Pennsylvania. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Legion.
