

Richard Douglas “Rick” Smith, 74 passed away on February 8, 2025, in Gahanna, Ohio. He was born on November 25, 1950, in Portsmouth, Ohio, and he is preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Barbara Smith.
Rick proudly served in the United States Air Force where is served as a Ranch Hand/Airplane Mechanic from October 29, 1968, to October 27, 1972. One of his most meaningful experiences came later in life when he participated in an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., visiting the Vietnam Memorial in October 2021.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Rick cherished time spent with his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Donohue; his sons Benjamin (Dina), Andrew (Melanie), and Timothy (Michelle): his grandchildren Caleb, Hayden, Zoe, and Evan; his sister Cindy; and his brother Larry (Yvonne). Rick also enjoyed frequent travel to spend time with Barb’s sons, Trent and Kevin, and their families.
Rick had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed boating, water skiing, camping, and traveling. He dedicated much of his time to helping others as a volunteer with Joseph’s Coats and as a scout leader with the Boy Scouts of America.
A family internment service will be held on March 8, 2025, Mifflin Cemetery in Gahanna, Ohio at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or Suncrest Home Health and Hospice.
Rick’s warmth and generosity touched many lives. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
