Robert Gordon Kracker, 75, passed away Wednesday February 2, 2022 after bravely fighting a long illness that he battled for several years. Born in Massillon, Ohio, he moved to Gahanna at age 14, graduated from Gahanna Lincoln in 1964 and Franklin University in 1974.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, John Kracker and Jeanette Kracker Fishbaugh, sisters Jeanne Reed, Ann "Babe" Ketter and Mary Nunz. He is survived by his wife Monna, daughters Brandi (Andy) Helsby, Robyn (Wes) Miller, grandchildren Tobin and Theodora Miller, brother John "Bud" Kracker, sister Barbara Schumacher, brother-in-law Jim Ketter, sister-in-law Sherrie Roby and many dear nieces and nephews, loving in-laws and friends.
To those who knew Bob, trying to describe the man he was in a few lines is impossible but to put it in the most simple of terms, everyone liked Bob. His sense of humor, work ethic, intelligence and easy going nature made him the first person you called for help, the life of the party and just the best guy you've ever known. Bob never met a stranger, always had a smile on his face and a good (or bad, depending on who you ask) joke to tell.
He knew he would marry Monna from the moment he saw her and cherished every one of the 53 years he spent married to his high school sweetheart. His family was the most important aspect of his life in so many ways. He loved unconditionally and showed you how much he cared in all he said and did. Being a great father and husband was the number one priority in his life and he exceeded all expectations on both fronts.
Bob loved to tell a story and there were several that revolved around his time in the service. He spent six years in the Ohio Air National Guard and was activated to Korea during the Pueblo Crisis beginning in January of 1968 to 1969. Being an American and serving in the Armed Forces was always a source of great pride and honor for him.
He worked so many interesting jobs as a young man, carpentry/construction for Robert 'Smitty" Smith, picking vegetables at the Souder Farm, stocking at the new Lazarus Northland, timekeeping at Timken Roller Bearing, but spent the majority of his career with Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technologies. After his retirement, he then went on to work for Cardinal Health for 7 years and Plain Township Aquatic Center.
He loved to read, never without a book in his hand and always quite content to sit on the bench reading while his wife and daughters shopped. Golfing was a true passion for many years and he always treasured his yearly outings to Myrtle Beach with friends. Many hours were spent on woodworking and countless DIY projects, he could fix just about anything.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, February 9, 2022 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Schoedinger Funeral Home, 1051 E Johnstown Road, Gahanna Ohio. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 10, 2022.
The family would like to offer their utmost gratitude and appreciation for everyone who contributed so much to his care, Hospice of Central Ohio; Abbey, Carmen, Shalonda, Kalee and Alex, and Chaplain Tanner. Friends; Mike and Jenny, Crystal, Austin and David, Amy, Maria, Mary Jane and Linda, and countless doctors and nurses at Mount Carmel St. Ann's Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to Lifeline of Ohio or Hospice of Central Ohio.
