Samuel Redding Gentry passed away in the arms of his devoted and loving parents, Lauren and Nathan Gentry, on Thursday, May 12, 2022. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his big brother, Jordan; his grandparents, John and Wendy Anderson and Christopher and Emily Gentry; aunts and uncles, Hannah Gentry, Jonathan (Briana) Gentry, Abigail Gentry, Lydia Gentry, Kristen (DJ) McMoil, Zane (Marissa) Anderson, and Trinity Anderson; and cousins, Asher McMoil, Elias Gentry, and Ruth Gentry.
Sam was born on Monday, May 9, 2022 at 4:04pm at 19 ½ inches long and weighing 6 lbs. 5 oz. God gave us the incredible gift of three days with our beautiful boy Sam that we will treasure for the rest of our lives. And also the amazing gift that his big brother Jordan got to give him hugs and tell him how much he loves him. Sammy had blue eyes and blond hair just like Jordy and we will always remember how alike they looked at birth.
Samuel went to be with the Lord and we are holding deeper grief and sorrow than we ever thought imaginable. But we are choosing to cling to the hope we have in Jesus Christ. We are so grateful for being able to hold Samuel in our arms and we know the Good Shepherd holds our family as we walk in this valley.
We feel like the Lord really led us in naming our son. Just as God answered Hannah’s prayer in the Bible for a son, he answered ours with Samuel. And just as she dedicated him to the Lord, we took some special moments in the hospital room to dedicate our Samuel to the Lord. We know that Christ’s arms are the best to hold him, even though we grieve we can’t be the ones to hold him now.
Oh Sam, we are thankful for the days and moments we were able to see how God formed you together to reflect His image. We hope, by God’s grace, to reflect something of the unique ways God created you as we reflect on your life and share your story with others.
May God use your life as a witness to the fact that - just as your name says - You are a God who hears and a God who parts waters for His people, even when there seems to be no way. In Christ, there is a way, and we hope to walk that way all the days of our lives, remembering all the gifts of life God grants, especially in the life of our Samuel Redding.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, May 23, 2022 from 9-10am at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST FUNERAL HOME, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, Ohio, 43230. Sam’s funeral service will immediately follow at 10am. Private interment will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Samuel's memory to Capturing Courage, who generously donated a photography session to our family while in the NICU so that we would have photos of Samuel to remember forever. https://capturingcouragephotography.org/
