William "Spike" Heywood Morton, Jr. of Gahanna, passed away on May 6, 2024, at the age of 77. Spike was born on March 21, 1947, in New York, New York, to the late William H. and Phyllis (Harding) Morton.
Spike's journey of life was marked by a commitment to education and a passion for sports. He pursued his bachelor's degree at Heidelberg University and furthered his education by earning a master's degree from the University of Dayton. For three decades, Spike dedicated himself to shaping young minds as a teacher in Groveport Schools, leaving a lasting impact on countless students.
Beyond his professional life, Spike found joy on the golf course. He cherished the game and served as a caddy master at the Columbus Country Club and caddied for both the Columbus Country Club and Muirfield Village. Spike's love for golf was matched only by his devotion to Ohio State Football and his hobby of collecting baseball cards. He also loved traveling abroad and in America with friends. Another joy was feeding wild birds and squirrels too.
Spike's legacy of love extends beyond his passions to his cherished family. He is survived by his loving wife, Paula Morton, their children Abby Morton and Bradley Morton, and grandchildren Ave Davis and Justin Carroll. He is also survived by his sister Cynthia (Tom) Connelly, brother-in-law Jack, and numerous nieces and nephews. Spike never met a stranger so he also leaves behind many good friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 4-7pm at Schoedinger Northeast, 1051 East Johnstown Rd. Gahanna, Ohio 43230.
