Known to many as “Buckeye Bill,” Bill lived a life defined by service, generosity and a deep love for his community. A proud Vietnam Veteran who served with the 1st Cavalry Division, he carried the values of loyalty and selflessness with him long after his military days, always ready to offer a helping hand to anyone in need.
A graduate of Mifflin High School, Bill remained a lifelong Ohioan and an unwavering fan of Ohio State Buckeyes football, rarely missing a chance to clap loudly while cheering them on. He loved sitting in his driveway in warm weather (and loved talking about the weather), traveling with family and friends, and spending time at Gahanna Creekside, especially during military holidays.
Bill’s generous spirit reached into every corner of his life. He was a regular guest performer at Pinnell Dance Center, while always supporting dancers and their families, and he was chief custodial engineer for years at the Gahanna Municipal Golf Course.
Bill was a loving father to his two daughters, Lori and Angie. He is also survived by his former wife, Phyllis Walker; Karen Mimna (sister); Dave Broderick and Mike Myers (sons-in-law); Jack Broderick, Chase (and Jacquie) Myers, Carson Myers, Cade Myers (grandchildren); Laken Myers (great granddaughter). His legacy lives on in them and in the countless lives he touched through acts of kindness, humor and generosity.
Bill Walker will be remembered as a selfless man, a loyal friend, a proud veteran and an unforgettable presence in Gahanna. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 24 from 3:00–7:00 p.m. at VFW Post 4719 in Gahanna. Donations may be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund in Bill’s honor.
Bill’s final resting place will be at Arlington National Cemetery where he will receive full military honors at a later date.
