Surrett, Alton Sidney, age 76 of Morris went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 1, 2012. He was a member of Gardendale First Baptist Church, retired from Sloss Industries after many years of service and was a U. S. Army veteran. Alton was a loving husband, father and grandfather and Godly example to all who knew him. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Frances Moore Surrett; children: Ricky (Ramona) Surrett, Mitzi (late Terry) Nelson, Terrill (Michelle) Surrett and Tina (Kevin) Meadows; grandchildren: Brandon (Julia) Nelson, Chris Banks, Austin Nelson, Allie Surrett, Erika Meadows, Sydney Surrett, Sophia Surrett and Daniel Meadows; great grandchild, Elijah Nelson; brothers and sister: Joe Surrett, Donnie Franklin, Bobby Franklin, Sandy Jerkins and Ronnie Franklin. His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
