

Charles R. James was born in Kimberly, Alabama, and passed away on March 30, 2018, at the age of 84. Charles was a long-time member of the Morris Church of Christ where he served faithfully as an Elder. He graduated from Mortimer Jordan High School and he served honorable in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Beatrice Foods after 30 years of service.
Charles is preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert and Beatrice James, and his loving wife of 62 years, Doris McCombs James. Charles and Doris had a long and happy marriage, traveling around the world and living in Mississippi, Texas, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida. They returned to a permanent home in Alabama in 1993.
Charles is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Steve Puckett, Charles loved Debbie dearly and they had a very special and priceless bond together and he loved Steve as his own son. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jamie Puckett Tortorice (Ben), Beau Puckett (Lauren); his sister, Glenda James Garrett; his sister-in-law, Jean McCombs Little (Jimmy); his brothers-in-laws, Ronnie Arnold and Harold Crane; and his great-grandchildren, Ella and Meredith Tortorice; and a host of nieces and nephews and their children, as well as numerous friends who loved him.
Services will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 with a time of celebration of his life to begin at 1:00pm; funeral service at 2:00pm followed by his burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens, Gardendale, Alabama.
