

David was preceded in death by his parents, John Tolbert, Jr. and Doris (Phillips) Tolbert; and brother, Larry Tolbert. He is survived by his brother, Derwin (Tonya) Tolbert, and several nieces and nephews.
David was a faithful member of East Gardendale Baptist Church. He was loved by all who knew him and will be terribly missed. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 21, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a Celebration of Life to follow at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel, Gardendale, Alabama. A reception will be held at East Gardendale Baptist Church, 360 Tarrant Rd, Gardendale, Alabama. David will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo, Alabama.
David is a graduate of Glenn High School and earned a Masters of Business Administration Degree from Golden State University, a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and an Associate of Science Degree from Jefferson State Junior College.
He lived a full and exciting life and enjoyed sports, snow skiing, scuba diving, flying airplanes and parachuting.
David served in the US Coast Guard from 1974 to 1978, and then was commissioned as an officer in the US Air Force in 1983, retiring in 2000 as a Major with over 20 years military service.

He was recognized with many awards and medals including:
Meritorious Service Medal, August 2000: Presented for outstanding service while serving as Chief of Financial Branch Operations.
Meritorious Service Medal, June 1998: Presented for outstanding service while serving as Chief of Exercise and Automation Teams within the Comptroller Budgetary Division.
Meritorious Service Medal, August 1995: Presented for outstanding service as Comptroller.
The Air Force Achievement Medal, June 1999: Presented for outstanding achievement in support of United States operations in Serbia through effective strategic planning initiatives and providing key financial personnel and resources.
The Air Force Commendation Medal, August 1991, January 1987, January 1985: Three awards presented for meritorious service and superior leadership abilities in providing operating, financial, and cost analysis to senior officials enhancing organizational effectiveness.
David was a member of the American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC).
After retiring from the US Air Force, David continued his career working as an Associate with Resources Connection, an international professional services firm providing project professionals with unique skills, knowledge, and abilities in Finance and Accounting, Information Technology, and Human Resources to implement, manage, and complete time-specific activities.
