

Doris Marshman Thompson, born February 27, 1920 in Birmingham, Alabama, died with her children at her side on February 8, 2016. She was 95 years old. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Jack R. Thompson, three brothers-Ed, Don, and Doug Marshman-and a sister, Jane Maxwell. She is survived by her brother, Richard Marshman; her son, Jack R. Thompson, Jr. (Gail); her daughter, Marsha Thompson Rutherford (Lin); her three grandchildren Van, Will and Sarah; and four great-grandchildren, Ford, Owen, Lindell and Makena. A lifelong resident of Birmingham, Doris graduated from Phillips High School. She was a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. Doris will be remembered for her frankness, quick-wit and unique sayings. She always said that daffodils bloomed in February for her birthday. We appreciate all the wonderful caregivers and nurses at St. Martins in the Pines. They loved Doris, too, and called her "Ladybug." "God is love", Doris, and now he is with you. A memorial service will be held at St. Martin's in the Pines Chapel @ 3:00 pm on Thurs, Feb. 11.
