

Elvie Mae Bright, born on January 15, 1911 went to her heavenly home on June 7, 2012 at the age of 101. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Arthur R. (Pop) Bright; parents: George and Eula Joyner; brothers: Eldred and William (Rooster) Joyner; sister, Dorothy Knight; granddaughter, Cathy DeLaPena. Elvie was a member of Gardendale First Baptist Church and the Welcome Sunday School Class. She was employed with Sitter Service Inc. after surviving cancer she returned to work at Samford University with Marriott Corp. as a cashier in the cafeteria until the age of 85. Survivors include her daughters: Jeanette Sanders and Barbara Leslie (Donald); grandchildren: Linda Winfrey (Alan), Donna Smith, Wayne Godsey, Jr. (Denise), Connie Lewis (Joe) and Arthur Leslie; great grandchildren: Tony DeLaPena (Jennifer), Renita Myers (George), Bethany Hollis (Bobby), Nathan, Sally and Joseph Harper, Crystal Bailey (Chase), Brittany and Garrett Godsey, Allie and Alex Lewis; great great grandchildren: Kalie DeLaPena, Zoey Hollis, Mason and Hannah Myers and Collin Bailey. Her service will be held at 11:00 Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart or Cancer Associations or charity of your choice.
