Ethyl Jean went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ, on April 8, 2014 at the age of 76. She was born and raised in Lawrence County, Alabama. She was of the class of 1956 at Hatton High School. She married the love of her life, Jimmy in 1955, they settled in Gardendale, Alabama to raise their family. She was a faithful worker and worshiper at East Side Baptist Church and was loved by all. Ethyl Jean worked 17 years in retail sales at Alands, Eastwood Mall; Fayrees, Gardendale; and BJ’s, Pinson, but her joy in life was loving and nurturing her family. Nothing was more important to her than the time she spent with them.
Ethyl Jean is survived by her devoted husband, Jimmy Lee Horton; son, Terry Horton (Loretta); daughter, Joan Brock (Randy); four grandsons, Jonathan Horton (Jennifer), Nathan Horton (Rebecca), Andrew Brock (Jennifer), and Bradley Brock (Abigail); five grandchildren, Conner, Jacob, Maddax, and Jadyn Horton, and William Brock; two brothers, Harvey Oliver and Jimmy Oliver; four sisters, Ocille Johnson, Opal Flanngain, Syble Tedwell, Mavis Monk. Her passing is preceeded by her parents Thomas and Edna Oliver; two brothers, Lyndon Oliver and Jerald Oliver.
Services will be held at the Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with a visitation on, Thursday, April 10 from 5-8 pm with a funeral service on, Friday, April 11 at 11 am, Brother Allen Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
Ethyl Jean was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all.
