Frances Louise McCurdy Rickett (“Granny”) was born on February 18, 1936. On January 19, 1953, Frances married Harry “Sonny” W. Rickett (“PawPaw”) to whom she remained married until her death on November 17, 2016.
Granny and PawPaw loved one another in a way that is rare. Together since they were children, it was rare to see one without the other.
Granny enjoyed spending time with her family. With smaller grandkids, she delighted in getting on the floor “tying them in knots” and making paper-cup telephones. As their interest changed and they grew, she could be found at sporting events watching them play.
Granny loved holidays. Every 4th of July, she could be found banging on a pot with a wooden spoon leading the annual parade to place the American Flag on the front of the house. After the flag was set, she would direct the participants in singing “You’re a Grand Old Flag” of which she could only remember the first few lines but would loudly sing making up the rest. On Thanksgiving, her dressing, potato salad, and deviled eggs were the highlights of the meal. Unwrapping Christmas gifts from her was always exciting as you may or may not actually unwrap the gift meant for you.
Blessed with an infectious laugh, she was always laughing and smiling. She often called places by the wrong names and acted silly just to watch the reactions.
Granny taught her family to be generous, helpful, and strong. If someone was in need, she was one of the first to offer help.
Frances leaves behind a legacy who greatly loved her and will cherish her memory: Oldest son Clarence and daughter-in-law (and best friend) Cindy, Youngest son Myron (“Babe”) Rickett Grandchildren: Carrie (Nathan) Hall, Cassie Drake, Carlie (Marcus) MacKeraghan, Brooke (Jon) Miller Great-grandchildren: Emma Kate Bearden, Sophie Bearden, Amelia Hall, Hunter Hall, Caylee Drake, Mason Miller, and Maggie Miller
Services will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on Sunday, November 20, 2016 with a visitation to begin at 1:30pm, funeral service at 2:30pm followed by her burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens, Gardendale, AL.
