

Fred served our country in The US Army during WWII and he was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He retired from the Birmingham Water Works after many years of service. He was a devoted family man; loved his family dearly and cherished all the time he was able to spend with them.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred James Reed and Bessie Edith Reed; his loving wife of 55 years, Tura Smith Reed; brothers, James F. Reed and Henry C. Reed and a great grandson, Nathan Kilgo.
Fred is survived by his daughters, Nina Faye Barr (Pat) and Linda K. Lambert (Jerry); a brother, John Preston Reed; sister-in-law, Sarah Howell; five grandchildren, Sherri Reed (Randy), Lamar Baker, Jackie Phannenstiel (Dan), Sondra Kilgo (David), and Mark McAuley (Kelly); eight great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; a nephew, Frankie C. Hodges (son of brother Henry) and many more nieces and nephews; his loving companion and caregiver, Vicky Gill and her brother, Rex Gill; his best furry friend "Coco" who was always by his side and a host of friends.
The family extends special thanks to Kim and the rest of the staff at Affinity Hospice for their care and support.
A visitation for Fred will be held Sunday, March 15, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel. A funeral service will occur Monday, March 16, 2020 at 2:00 PM, followed by his burial will occur at Friendship Methodist Cemetery, 7100 Church Road, Gardendale, Alabama 35071.
