Gary Louis McAnally, “Mac” “Poppa”, went to be with the Lord on April 9th at the age of 75. He is survived by Mary Argo, his wife of 56 years; two daughters, Leslie Gurganus, and Lisa Hawkins (Pike); three grandchildren - Eric Tucker (Alyssa), Chad Tucker (Emily), and Kyle Hawkins; four great grandchildren - Macie Kathryn, Ben Louis, Brody Alan, and Anna Lise; and his sister, Mary Ellen Baker.
Gary graduated from Mortimer Jordan High School in 1965 and Jacksonville State University in 1969. He spent his career with StateFarm Insurance as an agent, retiring in 2011, after 34 years.
Gary loved the outdoors. Earlier in his life, his loves were any sport but especially baseball and golf. If he ever went missing, we could always find him either cutting grass, landscaping the yard, or working the vegetable garden. His friends would ask “Where’s Gary?.. Somewhere scratching dirt?”
Gary is the rock of our family and a brother to his friends. He was everything a man should be, he was strong and mighty, while also being so tender, caring, and loving. "We love you Poppa."
A visitation for Gary will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2022 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ridoutsgardendalechapel.com for the McAnally family.
